The Resolution was adopted by 529 votes in favour, 45 against and 14 abstentions.
The Resolution:
- Calls on the Heads of State and Government who will meet as the European Council on 23 and 24 June 2022 to grant EU candidate status to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova without delay, and to grant the same status to Georgia once its government has delivered on the indicated priorities in the Commission's opinion;
- Underlines that the EU accession must take place in accordance with Article 49 TEU, based on respect for the so-called Copenhagen criteria for EU membership, and remains a merit-based process that requires adoption and implementation of relevant reforms;
- Calls on the EU institutions to update the EaP policy in order to remain a transformative and meaningful instrument in the current context;
