General documents - European Parliament resolution of 9 March 2022 on foreign interference in all democratic processes in the European Union, including disinformation - Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee

The report was adopted with 552 votes, 81 against and 60 abstentions.

On 9 March 2022, Parliament's plenary adopted its final proposals on how to strengthen the EU's response to foreign interference into its democracy.
The report highlights that a general lack of awareness of the severity of foreign interference and information manipulation, overwhelmingly carried out by Russia and China, is exacerbated by loopholes in legislation and insufficient coordination between EU countries.

The report advanced numerous recommendations on:
  • Building EU resilience through situational awareness, media literacy and education;
  • Fighting foreign interference using online platforms;
  • Fighting foreign interference during electoral processes;
  • Boosting cybersecurity and resilience against cyberattacks, strengthening deterrence and countermeasures;
  • Strengthening global cooperation and multilateralism;
